March 1: International Wheelchair Day

📘 March 1, 2024: International Wheelchair Day drives freedom forward in personal mobility.

What if a wheelchair wasn’t a “sad accessory”, and instead it was a “freedom machine”? International Wheelchair Day rethinks the role of wheelchairs in being part of people’s lives. If you haven’t taken a wheelchair for a spin yourself, you should try. But I think wheelchairs are like Harley’s — if you own one, you don’t let other people drive yours.

March 1: Disability Day of Mourning Day

📘 March 1, 2024: Disability Day of Mourning brings uncomfortable awareness to the act of filicide.

Not anyone’s favorite way to start March, please skip forward if you want to stay in a cheerful mood. The “Disability” part references children who were born with differences. The “Mourning” part references tragic loss. Deeper context uncovers the unsettling decisions made by some parents.

March 1 (First Friday in March): Dress in Blue Day

📘 March 1, 2024: Dress in Blue Day gathers unity and hope for the fight against colorectal cancer.

Each year, over 100,000 Americans are diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is a term that covers colon cancer and rectum cancer,. The human colon is the large intestine, which absorbs water and forms stool. The human rectum “end-of-the-road” for the large intestine, which stores stool before clearing a human takes a bowel movement. Graycare is NOT a doctor.

March 1 (First Friday in March): National Employee Appreciation Day

📘 March 1, 2024: National Employee Appreciation Day is for paying commoditized workers more money, I think.

When I checked in January 2024, Indeed.com says caregivers (in Michigan) earn $15.00 per hour and ZipRecruiter.com says $13.00 per hour. Michigan’s 2024 direct care workforce who qualifies as an “informal/family caregivers” can earn $13.53 per hour paid to caregiver from the government and “formal/professional caregivers” can earn $19.68 per hour.  While employers of caregivers continue to brainstorm creative ways to show recognition to employed caregivers, the bottom-line answer is clear to me. Alexa, is $14.00 per hour a living wage in 2024 in America?

March 4: National Sons Day

📘 March 4, 2024 (also September 28): National Sons Day.

More specific than children, today’s for celebrating the bond between a son and their parents’, guardians’, and caregivers’. Daughters, don’t fret — National Daughter’s Day comes around on September 25.

March 4: World Obesity Day

📘 March 4, 2024: World Obesity Day focuses on positive health habits, not negative body image reinforcement.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIKKD) says 1 in 3 American men and 1 in 4 American women are obese. So on World Obesity Day, body image words like “fat” might come to mind first, but what really matters is obesity’s link to serious health conditions like heart disease, diabetes, liver disease, and cancer.

March 6: National Dentist Day

📘 March 6, 2024: National Dentist Day is a time to smile for your dentist.

Taking care of your oral health leads to pearly whites and fresh breath for friends and good mouth health. Your smile is brought to you in part by our appreciated dentists who step in for examination and treatment when needed when good daily brushing, flossing, and maybe mouthwash isn’t enough.

March 8: International Women's Day

📘 March 8, 2024: International Women's Day shows by achievement why women are here to work.

What matters here is gender equality and people recognizing the accomplishments of women. Back in the early 1900s labor movement, it was the Socialist Party of America who rallied for women’s worker’s rights, suffrage, and equality and made International Women's Day into a thing to remember.

March 9: False Teeth Day

📘 March 9, 2024: False Teeth Day is known for dentures.

Conventional “Full Dentures” are the kind we know from TV when all the teeth are missing, are just one type. “Partial Dentures” fill in gaps of missing teeth, between the remaining natural teeth. There are permanent dental implants to replace missing teeth. There are adhesive-on and snap-in temporary dentures — many kinds to choose. You’ll learn all this as you grow older, unless you take top-notch care of your teeth and have a good family history (genetic predisposition) to a healthy mouth into old age.

March 10: Ramadan

📘 March 10, 2024 to April 9, 2024: Ramadan begins in March this year.

Muslims celebrate Ramadan through fasting, prayer, community gatherings, and spiritual development. The Islamic Calendar followed by Muslims follows a lunar cycle, Sunday, March 10, 2024 and end on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. The Islamic Calendar follows a lunar cycle from March 10 to April 9 is approximately accurate for 2024.

March 11: COVID-19 Global Pandemic Day

📘 March 11, 2024: COVID-19 Global Pandemic Day is when the WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic in 2020.

On March 11, 2020, COVID-19 cases had risen to 118,000 cases and 4,291 deaths across the world. As we grimace in “The New Normal”, may we remember it’s not as bad now as it was before, thanks to the actions taken globally to “Slow The Spread”.

March 11: National Funeral Director and Mortician Recognition Day

📘 March 11, 2024: National Funeral Director and Mortician Recognition Day is an observance alive and well.

For a profession most people won’t consider, this day honors the function in society that is transitioning our passed members’ path to the afterlife while supporting surviving members through the logistics of death and process of grieving.

March 11 (Monday After Daylight Savings Time Starts): National Napping Day

📘 March 11, 2024: National Napping Day to reclaim the rest stolen from you.

The exact date and time will vary depending on where you live, but here in Michigan Daylight Savings Time starts Sunday, March 10, 2024 and 3:00 AM. That’s where National Napping Day steps in offering justice for the the positive impact of day naps on mood and energy, from which one hour of sleep was recently swindled from you.

March 14: National Write Down Your Story Day

📘 March 14, 2024: National Write Down Your Story Day is one day to actually record your story.

In 2024, you don’t need a pen and paper to write. Anyone with a smartphone can “Type a Document” or “Record a Voice Note” and save it somewhere safe. The point today is to make your story available outside yourself, any any form you wish. For those with aging parents, today’s a good reminder to start “Digitizing Your Family Photos” and saving them safe online using a cloud storage service like Google Photos, Apple Photos, or Amazon Photos.

March 17: St. Patrick's Day

📘 March 17, 2024: St. Patrick's Day means everyone’s Irish.

Saint Patrick himself is the patron saint of Ireland, so we lepper-cons in America find a local pub with green food coloring in their beer cuz we’re damn lucky today. (The luckiest drunkard is over 21 years of age, brings a designated driver, drinks alcohol at a slow pace, and has a glass of water between drinks to stay hydrated.)

March 18 (Third Monday in March): Well-Elderly Day

📘 March 18, 2024: Well-Elderly Day is all about elderly well-being.

What could bring a lil health, happiness, and connection into the life of someone the senior? Keep elderly quality of life top of mind today. Grandpa having a tough time getting up the chair, or a slippery time in the shower? Buy the right in-home mobility product to levy-up an easy, safe way. Worried about Nana living alone in another state? With iPhones and IoT (Internet of Things) Electronic Devices in your home, remote caregiving is made possible and accessible to consumers across America.

March 19: National Certified Nurses Day

📘 March 19, 2024: National Certified Nurses Day awards nurses’ commitment to care.

Nurses are essential frontline workers and respected healthcare operators. To become a certified nurse you’ll (probably) need to take a nurse training course and pass the exam. In Michigan, for example, it’s the NCLEX-RN exam (for Registered Nurses or RNs) or NCLEX-PN (for Licensed Practical Nurses or LPNs). But today you don’t have to be one to thank one.

March 21: World Social Work Day

📘 March 21, 2024: National Certified Nurses Day awards nurses’ commitment to care.

Wikipedia says social workers “[Meet] the basic needs of individuals, families, groups, communities, and society as a whole to enhance their individual and collective well-being”. I feel like a social worker, because I strive to meet others’ needs and improve others’ well-being. In order to put social work into practice, I must now pick a particular aspect of social justice or equality, then plan and implement the social work to impact the lives of individuals and communities in a positive manner.

March 22: As Young As You Feel Day

📘 March 22, 2024: As Young As You Feel Day because age is just a number.

Exactly as you might think, now is your chance to put on a mindset like your 20s, 30s, 40s. 50s. 60s. 70s because I’d be so happy to know if an 80 or 90 year old would say they feel great “like I’m 80 or 90 years old”. Hip, hip, huzzah — to a positive, youthful outlook to keep living life like you want, despite what your joints tell you after a day of getting out and doing it.

March 22: World Water Day

📘 March 22, 2024: World Water Day celebrates and protects the source of life."

Clean water is nice to drink and shower in. Would you say in 2024, that worldwide we’re having some water and sanitation problems, or at least some shortages in some areas? This year’s special theme will leverage water for peace, so Great Lake States like Michigan have a seat at the table with Pacific and Atlantic coast dwellers as well as our central neighbors along the Mississippi.

March 30: National Doctors Day

📘 March 30, 2024: National Doctors Day for them doctors be treating and ‘scribing.

It takes years to get through medical school to become a doctor, plus exams and accreditations of a regulated nature I’m no expert in. Thanks to individuals for knowing the years and years it takes to become a doctor before yet starting and completing all requirements to become a certified doctor, where they will remain doctors for their entire careers... With my one body which supplies my life, I am grateful to the doctor who demonstrates this dedicated commitment to healthcare.
