What are you doing today?

One way to let all the people in your house know what is happening.

I know this solution is not rocket science…but it has helped communication in the home with less work!

Tech-Savvy Caregiver Tip: If your mom likes fridge calendars, and you like Amazon Alexa - both for the same purpose of scheduling and reminders - then you can compromise by keeping the fridge calendar and also setting 7-days of reminders all at once from the convenience of your computer browser on alexa.amazon.com #ad.

Solution: A whiteboard calendar, To-do List & Grocery list….TahDah!!!!!

This is how my family of three caregivers plus Dad are doing a little better at communication.

A kitchen calendar for caregiver families

This simple solution is a magnetic whiteboard calendar and notepad with a to-do list and grocery list.  This calendar has six dry-erase makers that can be used on both the calendar and notepad. The calendar is 16.9 inches wide by 13 inches high.  It is large enough to hold activities for 4 adults.

With the markers, each person chose a color for the information they would put on the calendar.  Color-coding activities help us know who is doing what each day and save space on the calendar.

An easy way to get on the same page

We are in our second month of use.  The magnetic boards are strong enough not to move about on the fridge door.  They are easy to clean.  The only suggestion for the company would be to have brighter dry-erase markers.  They are a bit hard to read from a distance.

One of us just put the calendar front-and-center of our kitchen refrigerator one day, wrote the months dates and appointment, and that was that. The whole family knew what to do... TahDah!!!

If you are looking for a way to improve communication in your house or working to not forget an appointment, you might try something like this calendar.   There are lots of options, so look around and find what works for you and your life.

One con, if you walk by and brush against the markers, they are easy to fall onto the floor. So put the markers high, I think most dry erase marker magnets are weak!

Thought after writing this post:

“For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned.”  – Anonymous

I don’t know if this quote is true or not, but I do feel better when I don’t have to look frantically for appointments in my mail, emails, or messages.  Or feel embarrassed when forgetting important dates like birthdays or commitments.

Caregiving is hard so every little bit helps.  Every bit of feeling good may counter those feelings of guilt, hopelessness, and loneliness just a bit.
