Aveeno #ad has made something special with their soothing, convenient, and all natural Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal Bath Treatment Packets.

The hype is: it's really nice for an extra-soothing bath when your skin feels dry and itchy, to soak in moisture and enjoyment, as well as to prevent and irritation after you're all dried off. πŸ›€

It's my favorite self-care bath product so far, even if it leaves a ring you need to clean up.

What is Aveeno OatmealΒ Bath Treatment?

When you look at the ingredients on the package to see its just 100% natural colloidal oatmeal in a packet you can rip open with your fingers right before bathtime.

Oatmeal - as experienced by people trying to relax, as dermatologist-recommended in TV commercials - creates a soothing milky bath, providing relief from itch and irritation caused by poison ivy, insect bites, sunburn, eczema, and other itches you have not yet been able to scratch.

It's like a mudbath more people are willing to try, since the packet makes it so simple and fast to slip into a soothing liquid skin remedy - the Aveeno oatmeal powder mixed nicely with fresh-run bathwater.

More technically accurate reasons it's is a welcome bath product for skin soothing self-care include:

  • 100% colloidal oatmeal.
  • FDA approved skin protectant.
  • Contains no added fragrance.
  • Typically purchased in a box with 8 packets inside.

As Soothing AsΒ TheyΒ Say?

It probably America's best selling colloidal oatmeal powder for use in the bath, but is Aveeno brand fragrance-free oatmeal bath treatment as soothing, rehabilitating, and enjoyable as all the hype?

βœ… Pros

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ A good pick for minor sensitive skin or minor skin irritation.

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ A good pick for people who want softer, creamy-feeling lovely skin.

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Some people use it while experiencing more serious skin conditions like psoriasis, chickenpox, or chigger bites - but I'd recommend asking a medical first. Graycare is NOT a doctor.‍

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ If you like the smell of freshly cooked oatmeal, you get exactly that pleasant, natural aroma and get to keep it on your skin for a while after the bath.

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Since oatmeal is natural, it's generally safe to be mixed with other natural nice-feeling products like bath soaps, epsom bath salts, or maybe even foaming bubblebath liquid.

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ You can use it in the shower by putting a small amount in your palm, or by getting a shaker container to mix together the water and oatmeal powder like you would a morning protein shake.

❌ Cons

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ It leaves a chalky residue ring in the tub (see image of my tub above) which means you have to rinse one more time, or maybe even scrub away the unsightly residue.

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ When you're pouring the oameal powder mix into the running hot water of the bathub, you're bound to get some chalky clumps floating at the surface and/or sinking to the bottom. I got the heeby jeebies feeling when I used my fingers to break up the dry clumps when I'm already wet.

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ After all is said and done - your morning routine complete - I don't necessarily feel the soothing effect throughout the day like a 48-hour deoderant. In my experience it's more about the bathtime experience, it does leave skin feeling softer and with a VERY gentle oatmeal scent.

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Environmental beauticians might try to shame you with reasons including "why don't you just grind your oatmeal the natural way" or "those single use packets are wasteful". Simply defer these rude people to Aveeno's sustainability pledge which states Aveeno is commited to 100% recyclable, reusable, or compostable packaging by 2025.

How To Use Aveeno Oatmeal Packets

In the Bath πŸ›

To avoid clumps, slowly sprinkle the it directly from the packet into the faucet-area running water. In fact, try to break apart any clumps before you start pouring, or use a shaker container to mix it like cocktail barista.

If there are more clumps, sorry, you just gotta stir them up or break them with your fingers. The water should start to look like a thin oatmeal by now!

Now you can soak your irritated, itchy skin for about 15 or 30 minutes and let that nourishing oatmeal into your pores and the dreamy sensations into your morning me-time.

After you're done, pat dry like exiting any other bath.

In the Shower 🚿

You can use small amounts of Aveeno oatmeal powder on your palm with just a dab of water to make a muddy dry rub to apply on your skin while clear from the water stream.

Or you can bring a shaker container into your bathroom to mix Aveeno colloidal oatmeal and warm water like "Shake, Shake, Shake".

Other Colloidal Oatmeal You Can Buy

🌾 Relief MD Soothing Colloidal Oatmeal Bath Treatment (6 Single-Use Packets): When it comes down to price per ounce this comparable single-use packet might be the less-expensive off-brand, since the package references Aveeno's active ingredients, and the box uses a similar color scheme as Aveeno to show shoppers, "we're the same, see?".

🌾 Dirty Treasures Organic Colloidal Oatmeal (16 oz) - For people who know how much colloidal oatmeal powder to scoop into the bath and don't need a packet.

🌾 Shea Organics Colloidal Oatmeal (16 oz) - Basically identical as the other 16 oz resealable package of natural colloidal oatmeal, take your pick!

🌾 Traverse Bay Bath And Body Colloidal Oatmeal (Oat Flour, 32 oz) - Basically identical, except now we're up too 32 ounces. Now how does that price-per-ounce of colloidal oatmeal look, a little less expensive?

Other AveenoΒ Products with Colloidal Oatmeal

🌾 Aveeno Moisturizing Bar with Natural Colloidal Oatmeal: Wash and rinse your face or other body areas just like any other soap. The nourishing colloidal oatmeal is the second most prevalent ingredient in this hand soap.

🌾 Aveeno Eczema Therapy Product Line: Take a look at this complete line of creams clinically proven to sooth dry skin due to exczema. Each type of cream to join the club includes ample colloidal oatmeal for itchiness relief.

Opinion: Aveeno is My Favorite Bathwater Treatment So far

I wasn't planning to pick up the Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment (Oatmeal, 8ct.) #ad as part of my caregiver self-care starter pack, but the price was right.

Among dozens of bathtime soothers, Aveeno is a recognizable brand with a natural oatmeal option for people who stay away from synthetic fragrances, and it was a low-cost 8-pack. Add to cart!

To date, I've tried three types of relaxing bath products: bath bombs, bubble bath, and this Aveeno brand bath treatment.

Aveeno Bath Treatment is my top pick for the soothing set of reasons aforementioned.

So what's next Aveeno? Would you introduce creamy "flavors", like wheat, charcoal, matcha, or something else chalky and nourishing.
