Like 10s of 1,000s of Americans who like to see in the dark when they need to, we bought the ESVALO motion sensor light #ad.

You, an alarm clock, one more dosage of meds, an iced beverage tumbler, and 10 full hours until your family wakes up at 6:30 AM. Can you imagine what it's like going to bed every night with advanced Parkinson's, knowing you might not be able to get up to go to the bathroom in time?

Yes, my dad keeps a rosary on his bed stand too.

One positive tradition that's come out of four adults living under one roof is a family meeting, where last time, my dad (70+ with Parkinson's and dementia) stated he was having trouble with the bedroom lights at night.

He's got rigid style Parkinson's. Even more than other old people, it can take him a long time before he can start to move the way he wants after staying in a still position for a long time.

It's called "freezing". Lying in bed for a full night's sleep means is really hard for my dad to "unfreeze".

So we bought a motion light on Amazon...

With long-lasting battery and charger included, what we really liked about the model was the magnet hanging feature.

All we needed to do was install an adhesive metal strip to the bottom of a closet shelf next to my dad's bed, and we'd solve his problem. Now when the light's were out at night, and he couldn't get to the light switch, he'd have the trusty motion light that turned on when he moved more than an inch or so.

The magnetic strip was really easy to install, and it holds the light securely from the ceiling. No problems here!

Before we used it ourself, we were thinking how nice it'd be to be able to easily take it down from the ceiling when it needed charging.

But after using it for over a month, we've realized the charging is actually a pretty big pain.

You charge the battery with the adaptor included when you purchase. The way my dad uses it, it'll hold a charge for 2 or 3 nights.

The light stays red when charging, and turns green when it it's fully charged.

The motion helps my dad out big time at night, and me too since he doesn't have to yell for help.

It's true it couldn't be easier to mount and dismount the ceiling light from the magnetic strip we installed. But as a caregiver, I just don't want another thing I have to upkeep, even if that's just plugging in a motion sensor light to give my dad a sense of security at night.

It's a good light, and does it's job well. The frequent charging wouldn't be so bad for a household full of able bodied people, but we're the modern aging family unit, and we're not looking for a different solution.

We tried basic, less expensive options like the motion light strip discussed today. Now i think it's finally time to try a more advanced, likely more expensive options like a smart light system my dad can control with his voice. Stay tuned!
