This old house was built over 65 years ago.

Most light switches turn something bright, but it’s not always a straightforward connection in the same room.

My old dad installed the latest wireless lights remote back in the mid 2000s, back when he had more of his wits with ‘im.

I never learned how to do it neither.

I need an electrician, and finding a reliable electrician has become a challenge due to the current labor shortage.

Where to Find the Best Electrician in Gratiot County, MI?

With a checklist of small fix-it jobs with switches, outlets, and light bulbs both upstairs and in the Michigan basement, I searched for businesses in Gratiot County that could turn a switch on my problems.

Here’s my tentative list of people I plan to call.

Maybe some options for electrician services in Gratiot County you haven’t heard of before, but look to offer professional residential electrical services for reasonable reasons.

Lakeside Electric and Consulting

Lakeside primarily serves Gratiot County residents can calls Ithaca home base, with a website listing their different types of residential services, and their full Mid-Michigan service area (Gratiot, Isabella, Genesee, Midland, Clinton, Mecosta, Montcalm, Saginaw, and Ionia counties). See their website. Or call Tony Ramon, Master Electrician, at 989-763-8830. Or email him at steelheadtamer@hotmail.com.

I grabbed this from Lakeside's Website to show you they got a nice white commercial van full of tools and a ladder on top.

Worthy Electric Inc.

Located in St. Louis, Michigan, Worthy is listed on the Better Business Bureau website - which is is a pretty good sign of trust in my opinion. (I didn’t see other Gratiot County electricians in the BBB. Just sayin’.) Worthy has a page on the St. Louis City Website, so they be part of the community, and that’s another good sign. Their Michigan Avenue location means prime access to both St. Louis and Alma in a jiffy. Call Worthy at (989) 681-3591.

This is an enlarged photo of the Worthy's truck I got from the St. Louis Website, so you can call the number on the cab now that you know it's a real silver service truck.

Davis Mike Electric

The D&B (Dun & Bradstreet) is another business listing like the Better Business Beaureau. When the D&B says there’s a business entity, you can trust it exists. Davis Mike owns a white building with the letters DAVIS ELECTRIC on it, so you know you’re in the right ballpark. You can find the location on Google maps, or you can call Davis Mike at 989-463-3555.

Gratiot County Seeks Easier Access to Fair-Priced Electricians

It's just harder to find a good electrician these days.

I remember when Consumers Energy friended our farmers into Turbine Wind Fields, and I hope they getting rich. Half of today’s new’s describe Michigan's government-level goals for renewable energy, and the other half talks about voters tired of turbines in my area.

There's more than "Fast Free Quotes" and "Customer First Service" at play.

Goodbye Neighborhood Repairman

Neighbors ain't the same as they used to be the same way I can't find the cornerstore to grab some cooking oil.

Bigger projects make more money, so contractors are more apt to bid on a $100,000 deal than my checklist of odd jobs.

Companies such as Town & Country Group in Ithaca, MI, and C&R Electric in Shepherd, MI, do great at "big projects”, aren’t the best bet for homeowners seeking fix-it help with smaller-scale repairs.

When Salesmen Try to Upsell You

In Gratiot County, finding a good electrician at a fair price ain’t easy. You commonly run into "upgrade services" or "alternative energy," making this electrician less suitable for basic repairs like fixing outlets, switches, and lights in our homes.

And more likely to try an upsell you.

When Tech Platforms Undercut Michigan Small Businesses

Platforms like Angi, Homeadvisor, and Networx have a different problem. They are a nationwide system, like an Uber for Electricians, Plumbers, and More. Most Angi contractors serving Gratiot County come from out of county, like Midland to our neighbor. But not exactly Gratiot, baby!

Angi is headquartered in the Colorado mountains.

Angi promises to connect you with local electricians, but they collect your information and match you with any available electrician in their system. Living in Lansing or Detroit would yield more electricians to pick from. In Gratiot, Angi is slim pickings.

While initiatives like the Pure Michigan Green Panel solar program and the Revolution Generac Generator might be new, green, or solve other electrical problems.

Summary

We're looking to get some small home electrical repairs done. The kind of stuff I should know how to do, but I never learned.

I want reliable electricians to fix the lights and make sure the right switch does the right bulb. Extras like checking in on the general health of my house's electrical systems would hurt neither.

Gratiot County residents want electricians who do basic repairs for a fair price.
